1. Selected SDG & Reason

SDG 13 — Climate Action focuses on taking urgent steps to combat climate change and its devastating impacts.

Climate change is the defining challenge of our era. Global temperatures have risen 1.1°C above pre-industrial levels, causing extreme weather, melting ice caps, and threatening food security for billions. Individual carbon emissions account for a significant portion of global greenhouse gases. Without awareness and action at the individual level, systemic change cannot succeed. This project empowers every person to understand and reduce their personal impact.

2. Problem Statement

  • What: Most individuals have no idea how much CO₂ their daily lifestyle emits.
  • Where: This is a global problem, especially acute in urban, high-consumption societies.
  • Who: Everyone — students, professionals, households — contributes to and is affected by climate change.
  • Why serious: Without personal accountability, climate targets will not be met. The 2030 deadline to cut emissions by 45% is rapidly approaching.
  • If unsolved: Global warming will exceed 2°C, causing catastrophic and irreversible environmental damage.

3. Proposed Solution

EcoTrace is a web application that enables users to calculate, visualize, and reduce their personal carbon footprint.

Users input data across four categories — transport, energy, food, and waste. The system computes monthly CO₂ emissions using standardized emission factors, displays them on an analytics dashboard, provides personalized reduction tips, and tracks progress over time. The application is designed for individual citizens, students, and households who want to take meaningful climate action.

4. Project Features

  • Carbon Calculator: Multi-tab input form covering all major emission sources (transport, energy, food, waste) with real-time CO₂ calculation.
  • Analytics Dashboard: Visual KPI cards, bar trend charts, and donut category breakdown using pure HTML/CSS/JS.
  • Personalized Tips: AI-style recommendations based on the user's highest emission categories.
  • Eco Rating System: A-F grade rating compared to global and national averages.
  • Responsive Design: Fully functional on mobile, tablet, and desktop screens.
